ABOUT DAVE

A magnificently boring youth led me into the world of professional music, basically because I couldn’t do anything else. I studied at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, graduated shortly after the invention of the wheel and have spent the years since as an accomplished musical jack of all trades.

In the intervening years, which have passed by in a flash, I’ve been privileged to work alongside, with, and for some wonderful people - some of them were really quite musical! The list includes people that even I’ve heard of such as from recordings and performances with Billy Connolly, James Galway, Van Morison, Phil Coulter and many others that predate most people under the age of 60.

I've even been known to venture into the world of musical theatre and have joined in with the joyous playing of some of its shows - Starlight Express, Cats,  and Jukebox (if you remember that one you’re probably as old as me), as well as other classic and not so classic productions.

I also spent a very pleasant few years involved with a small West End production company working on TV ads, themes, film music, making the tea, posting the letters…

A considerable part of my career was spent working in Ireland, recording and performing with several artists. Then, America beckoned. I don’t quite know how, but somehow being involved with the Irish and the Irish music that emanated from the country, meant that an Englishman, namely myself, ended up touring America, Canada and other far-away shores where the Irish were regarded as heritage. Yes... an Englishman! The gentle folk in America never found out, chiefly because I was never allowed to speak in their presence. They put me in a place out of trouble, waving my arms in front of the musicians and singers pretending they were paying attention to me. It seemed to work fine, I got away with it for a good few years.

So, here I am back in jolly old Blighty. Enjoying our lovely choirs, The Daisy Bowlers, and attempting to pass on some of my hard-earned wisdom to aspiring musicians of all ages and styles. I'm happy to help with piano and generally anything to do with music. As previously mentioned, it’s the only thing I can do!
